Sujatha Mallika, a girl from a remote village in the south, has been deeply traumatised by events in her own past. When she enters Jaypura University she faces and survives a sadistic rag carried out by a student union affiliated to a radical political party.
Even as she suffers the rigours of the rag, she is deeply impressed by the rhetoric of a messianic leader of that party who promises to sweep away the corrupt establishment and find a place in the sun for the rural poor. When the rag is over she joins the party and works hard to bring them to power.
Although deeply committed to their just cause, Sujatha is repelled by the violence the party uses to suppress its opponents and punish ‘traitors’. She also becomes aware of a mysterious plan called the ‘Ginirälla project’ aimed at seizing power in the country. Dismayed and fearful, she leaves the party when she graduates from Jaypura.
As a journalist, Sujatha battles the demons of her own past even as she works to unravel the Ginirälla Conspiracy. What she finally uncovers is a plot so terrifying that it is almost beyond belief.
But the discovery comes too late for her, and for the city Colombo
